"Liwaliw" is Filipino for excursion or pleasure trip (ref: Google Translate). "Liwaliw" is also the name of the blog created by glenncruz, first on Blogger in 2003.
In 2007, when undersea cables near Taiwan broke and affected Internet connections in the region, Liwaliw opened a new home in i.ph. In 2009, Liwaliw attempted to re-establish in My.Opera.
Between moves from Blogger to i.ph to My.Opera, there were attempts to expand Liwaliw presence on different blogging and social networking sites. Some of these accounts contained lead paragraphs and jump-links to Liwaliw blog entries.
There was also an attempt to diversify "flavors" of Liwaliw in different sites. Liwaliw on i.ph was home to "opinion" while Multiply focused on "soundtrip" or music that interested glenncruz. The original Blogger transformed into a photo-blog themed "lakwatsa," Filipino for truancy (ref: Google Translate), but also colloquially meant to loiter or roam around.
In Blogger, two more Liwaliw flavors were started: Liwaliw-inbox and AspacMSM. The first one was a scrap-blog of interesting and funny forwarded e-mails that glenncruz couldn't/wouldn't trash. The other was a repository of articles and downloadable material related to glenncruz's advocacy work on HIV and AIDS.
The tagline "Blogging is an opinionated person's recreation" was first used in Liwaliw on My.Opera.
